Nick Fuentes: Enemy of American Values

I have always believed in the power of free speech, but I also believe that freedom must never become a cover for hate. I am a fierce critic of Nick Fuentes because his words and actions divide rather than heal. He has built a following on racist and extremist ideas that destroy the values of equality and respect that hold a nation together. Fuentes is known for denying the Holocaust, spreading antisemitic conspiracies, and promoting a belief that America should return to being a “white Christian nation.” He uses his platform to glorify hate.

Based upon the values that I have abided by as a former Republican Executive Committee member, I can say with certainty that many of his values and views do not directly align with that of the Republican Party, nor do they represent the values and views of the MAGA movement. Trump has gone on record numerous times  to disavow white nationalism, antisemitism, and hate towards the LGBT. Just to be clear, the GOP has members who are from every walk of life that includes Jews, Muslims, Jews, Blacks, Trans, and Gays.

Speech like Nick’s does not simply express an opinion. It poisons the image of the Republican Party, corrupts public dialogue, radicalizes listeners, and fuels hostility toward others. This is why I believe such speech should not be given a platform on social media. Companies like YouTube, X, and Rumble have the right and responsibility to moderate harmful content. The First Amendment protects individuals from government censorship, but private companies are not required to host or promote messages that encourage violence or discrimination. Allowing extremist voices to grow unchecked in the name of free speech creates real harm and weakens the moral fabric of society.

During the Obama and Biden years and throughout Trump’s first term, I noticed two extremes. On one side, there was an overreaction that labeled legitimate disagreement about topics such as abortion, gender identity, and traditional values as hate speech. On the other, there was a failure to confront actual hate when it appeared in full force. By reacting too harshly to ordinary opinions, society blurred the difference between disagreement and danger. That confusion allowed genuine hate speech to enter public spaces with greater freedom.

The question is not whether Fuentes should have the right to speak. Under U.S. law, he does. The Constitution protects even speech that most people find offensive. However, it does not protect direct threats, incitement to violence, harassment, or speech that is part of criminal behavior. Private platforms have the right to remove or restrict such content, and they should use that right wisely to protect users and maintain healthy communities.

As citizens, we share the duty to oppose hatred whenever it appears. I believe there are four practical ways to do this:

  1. Speak up. Do not stay silent when you encounter hate. Call it out and explain why it is wrong.

  2. Promote truth. Share and support voices that uplift others rather than tear them down.

  3. Hold platforms accountable. Expect social media companies to enforce their standards fairly and transparently.

  4. Educate others. Teach people, especially young audiences, to recognize manipulation, falsehood, and extremist messaging.

Free speech is a cornerstone of our democracy, but it must walk hand in hand with moral responsibility. It is not enough to defend the right to speak; we must also defend the right of every person to live free from hatred and fear.
